History: The existence of a wine produced from grapes
of the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grape variety are found in the
writings of the Greek historian Polybius (we are between
the third and second centuries BC), which tell
of how, during the Punic Wars, the general
and the Carthaginian “Heros” (Hero) Hannibal offered
“cups” to the soldiers to invigorate them and ease their fatigue
of the battles.
